Chapter 2 · Verse 52

Sankhya Yoga

सांख्ययोग

यदा ते मोहकलिलं बुद्धिर्व्यतितरिष्यति | तदा गन्तासि निर्वेदं श्रोतव्यस्य श्रुतस्य च ||२-५२||

yadā te mohakalilaṃ buddhirvyatitariṣyati . tadā gantāsi nirvedaṃ śrotavyasya śrutasya ca ||2-52||

In plain words

You are encouraged to rise above the confusing tangle of worldly delusions. When your intellect clears itself of maya, the illusion that mistakes your temporary body and mind for your true Self, you will naturally lose interest in superficial worldly promises. You will find yourself beautifully indifferent to the distracting opinions and rewards that used to pull you in every direction.

Translation

2.52 When your intellect has passed beyond the tangle of delusion, you will yourself feel disgusted regarding what you shall hear and what you have already heard.

Meaning

The mire of delusion is the identification of the Self with the notself. The sense of discrimination between the Self and the notSelf is confounded by the mire of delusion and the mind runs towards the sensual objects and the body is takes as the pure Self. When you attain purity of mind you will attain to indifference regarding things heard and yet to be heard. They will appear to you to be of no use. You will not care a bit for them. You will entertain disgust for them. (Cf. XVI.24).
